God of War is het vervolg op God of War III en een voortzetting van de canonieke God of War-chronologie. In tegenstelling tot eerdere delen focust deze game op de Noordse mythologie en volgt hij een oudere, meer doorgewinterde Kratos en zijn zoon Atreus in de jaren sinds de derde game. In deze harde, meedogenloze wereld moet hij vechten om te overleven… en zijn zoon leren hetzelfde te doen.
